Help & FAQ

How do I use Hoursmith on my desktop?

On your phone, tap Open on Desktop to share the companion link. Use AirDrop to send it to your Mac, or send it through Messages or email. Open the link on your computer and sign in with the same Apple account you use in the phone app. Your clients and recorded time sync automatically while connected. Bookmark the page so you can reopen it each day. The button shares a link; it does not remotely launch your computer.

At the end of the day, tap Stop & Save. Closing the app or browser does not stop a running timer. Check Account & Sync to confirm the latest work has saved to your account before closing. If sign-in expires, sign in again there. Backup import is for restoring saved data, rather than everyday sync.

Do I need to sync manually?

No. Sign into the same Apple account on your phone and at the desktop companion. Hoursmith saves changes and checks for updates automatically while open and connected, approximately every 30 seconds and when you return to the app. Check Sync Now is optional. Offline changes stay on this device until they sync.

How do I save a client?

Open Clients, enter the name and tap Save Client. Look for the saved confirmation. Add contacts using the buttons for that client.

What do the timer buttons do?

Start begins recording time. Pause temporarily stops counting; Resume continues. Stop & Save ends the timer and saves the entry. Stop & Flag for Review also ends and saves it, marked for review. Choose either finish action. The buttons become disabled once the timer has ended.

Where do I change billing choices?

More → Billing Settings. Customize your business name, activities, work types, rates and billable/included/free choices. Included and free activities track time at no charge. Completed entries keep their recorded rate.

What is Add Time?

Enter a date, start and stop time, client, activity and optional notes for work you completed without the timer. Tap Save Manual Hours.

What is Backup & Restore?

Export Backup saves a separate JSON copy of your data. Restore Backup replaces the current data with that saved copy; export the current data first. Import is for restoring a backup, rather than everyday sync. Local-only data and signed-in account data are separate; export local data before signing in if you want to restore it into your account.

What do Reports do?

Filter completed time entries by client and date. Export CSV saves the report for a spreadsheet.

How do I fix an enlarged screen?

On iPhone, open More → Reset Screen Zoom. It restores the normal view without deleting your work.

What if two devices changed the same data?

Hoursmith asks which version to keep. Export a backup before choosing. Concurrent changes are not merged automatically.

Backup & Restore

Phone and desktop changes sync automatically when you sign into the same Apple account. Export saves a separate backup. Restore replaces the current data with a saved backup; export your current data first. Local-only data and signed-in account data are separate.
